Patrick is a DPhil student, working on developing methods to calculate x-ray scattering. Before joining the group, Patrick completed a MChemPhys at the University of Edinburgh (the group's former home), and completed his Master's level project at the Diamond Light source, developing ray-tracing code for synchrotron x-ray optics.
He is interested in the theory of X-ray scattering and role electron correlation has on it. He's particularly interested in using advanced ab initio quantum chemistry methods like density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) to compute scattering observables efficiently.
He spent his formative years in Vancouver, British Columbia, moving to Edinburgh in 2019. When not engaging in a spot of poultry husbandry, Patrick plays the accordion.
He currently holds a Stipendiary Lectureship in Physical Chemistry at Christ Church, where he teaches undergraduate physical chemistry tutorials.
